Main stories in Wednesday's AM program

SYDNEY, Dec 16 AAP - Main stories in Wednesday's AM program:

* There are claims that Australia's closest thing to an international land border is
underpoliced. The allegations come from the regional authority which monitors Australia's
Torres Strait islands and Papua New Guinea.

* Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has arrived in Copenhagen but one key negotiator representing
China and small developing nations has accused Mr Rudd of being a climate change skeptic,
saying he is leading the world in trying to kill off the Kyoto Protocol.

* Mr Rudd says he is not surprised that people are playing the blame game as the conference
comes to a close. He says there is no guarantee of success at the conference.

* While the prime minister is pushing the argument for a new climate agreement, Opposition
Leader Tony Abbott is going after the green vote at home. Mr Abbott says he is an environmentalist
and he says conservatism and conservationists are closely linked.

* Majak Daw came from a war-torn country and only picked up a football a few years
ago. The Sudan-born teenager, from Melbourne's outer west, has been signed to play in
the AFL rookie draft. He is hoping his success will encourage other African migrants to
the game.

* An aviation white paper to be released on Wednesday sets out the future of Australia's
aviation industry. The paper will kill off plans for a second Sydney airport to be built
in Badgery's Creek and recommends that a committee be set up to find a site for a new
airport to be built.

* Ethical concerns have been raised about new guidelines which would mean that doctors
would have to disclose details about possible family genetic disorders to blood relatives
of the patient diagnosed with a disorder, even if the patient does not consent.

* The Obama Administration has decided that prisoners at the controversial Guantanamo
Bay prison will be transferred to a jail in Illinois.
