Fed: Swimcoach to face court today on drug charges

Top swim coach GENNADI TOURETSKI will face the Canberra Magistrates Court today charged
with possessing the banned steroid Stanozolol.

TOURETSKI has declared his innocence but has been stood down with full pay from the
Australian Institute of Sport following a robbery at his Canberra home last week.

Members of his squad, including MICHAEL KLIM and SARAH RYAN, have taken the unusual
step of releasing their drug test results in a bid to protect the Australian swimming
team's reputation.

KLIM yesterday read a collective statement backing the institute's drug-testing regime
and declaring its swimming program to be the cleanest in the world.

But Olympian PETRIA THOMAS has warned the rest of the world will now suspect Australian
swimmers of taking performance enhancing drugs.
