Qld: Beattie offers new police pay deal
The Queensland government has moved to resolve its bitter pay dispute with police byputting a new offer on the table.
Premier PETER BEATTIE says the government will cut superannuation contributions from18 to nine per cent in line with New South Wales officers and put the nine per cent intobase salary.
Mr BEATTIE says the government is also prepared to reduce the penalty rate paymentfrom 23 per cent to the New South Wales figure of 20 per cent and put the three per centon base salary.
He says this is in addition to its present offer of a 3.5 per cent annual increaseover three years.
Mr BEATTIE says his appeal to the police union is to get around the table and resolve the issue.
He says the latest offer won't mean police officers are worse off in retirement.
The QPU is seeking an 18 per cent pay rise over three years for its 8,000 members.
