NSW: Rain helps bring bushfire crisis closer to an end
SYDNEY, Jan 16 AAP - Overnight storms had helped to bring the NSW bushfire crisiscloser to an end, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) said today.
Severe storms swept up the south coast as far north as Sydney last night, causing evacuations,flooding and power failures.
Storms struck the Shoalhaven on the south coast, where a number of fires had been burning.
Penrith, Richmond and Hornsby were also hit by heavy overnight rain.
RFS spokesman Cameron Wade said while the full effect of the rain would not be knownuntil later today, initial reports were that it had been helpful.
