Qld: Belgian visitor drowns in Qld pool
BRISBANE, Dec 26 AAP - A Belgian exchange student has drowned after doing somersaultsin a backyard pool in central Queensland.
Eighteen-year-old Thomas Ska died while swimming in the pool of a Carmila home, southof Mackay, about 7.30pm (AEST) yesterday.
The young man was an exchange student from Belgium and had been staying with the Queenslandfamily since August.
A Carmila police spokesman said the student, who was a strong swimmer, was thoughtto have knocked himself unconscious while doing somersaults in the shallow end of thepool.
His next of kin have been notified and his body will be returned to Europe once a post-mortemexamination is completed.
